Events calendar. October 2023

Aenert news. Energy Exhibitions & Conferences
After the summer holidays, the activity of business representatives, investors and researchers increased significantly. Hence the noticeable increase in the number of interesting exhibitions and conferences around the world. In the field of promising technologies, there are still many different events taking place related to the promotion of hydrogen topics, to which we decided to mainly devote our October review.
Of course, we cannot ignore topics related to wind energy. The turbulent events in this industry associated with the financial and technological crisis can be called the first truly serious challenge to the market posed to green energy. The upcoming traditional wind energy exhibition and accompanying conference in China will inevitably address this issue.
The World Hydrogen Congress 2023 will take place in Rotterdam from October 9 to 13, bringing together 3,000 hydrogen attendees. 800 companies from 50 countries have the opportunity to present their views on the development of hydrogen technologies and applications, as well as listen to 350 speakers give their reports. Various webinars here will offer insight into various concepts for the development of the hydrogen industry, in particular Hydrogen Hubs & Valleys: Regional Approaches & Case Studie.

In our opinion, the greatest interest among technological issues may be aroused by the reports of representatives of Chiyoda Corporation “LOHC-MCH: myth and advantages as a hydrogen carrier”, Clariant “Innovative catalysts for hydrogen conversion facilitating the energy transition”, Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies “Delivering commercially viable hydrogen from MENA to Europe via LOHC", Hybart "Green Energy Park Krk, the Central European gateway for ammonia imports".

Almost on the same days, a series of conferences, seminars and master classes dedicated to new technologies for the production, transportation and storage of hydrogen will be held at the Hydrogen Energy Summit&Expo in Bologna. Among the most important technological issues, such as Devices, equipment, materials, Hydrogen Production, Fuel Cells, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage, Hydrogen filling station, Electric and fuel cells Vehicles will be presented and discussed here. Among related topics, participants will not ignore Finance, Security, regulatory solutions and others.

On the other side of the planet in Sydney, Australia, the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition will take place at the end of October, bringing together world leaders in hydrogen energy to meet with policymakers and stakeholders in the region. In parallel with the summit, the H2 Tech Series will be held, where hydrogen experts will present the latest technologies and solutions from their companies to create a hydrogen ecosystem.

Perhaps the most important event of October this year may be China Wind Power 2023, which starts in Beijing on October 17. As we noted above, today wind energy is not in the most optimal position. Despite the fact that in 2022, global growth in this industry amounted to a considerable 9%, breaking the 900 GW mark, this is far from the best result of recent years. At the same time, about 50% of all new onshore capacity in 2022 came from China. In addition, Chinese companies today have installed the largest number of wind turbines in the offshore zone in the amount of 30 GW.

Thus, China has become the undisputed leader in wind energy in the world. Let's add to this the outstanding success of the Chinese company Mingyang, which this summer installed the largest offshore wind turbine in the world - MySE 16-260 with a power of 16 MW and a 260-meter rotor diameter.

Another achievement of Chinese companies, which often irritates competitors, is associated with market dominance of key wind turbine parts, including generators, gearboxes, bearings, and blades. According to various estimates, the share of Chinese manufacturers in the world market is 60-70%. We also note that the share of wind power generation in China over the past year in the second quarter increased from 8.9 to 10.2%.

How can other regions counter this onslaught today? Of the world's largest manufacturers of wind turbines, neither Vestas nor General Electric can overcome the unprofitability of their projects. But this had a particularly acute impact on the activities of Siemens Energy, where problems arose with the quality of wind turbines. To be fair, it should be said that the leader among Chinese wind turbine manufacturers, Goldwind, also showed not its best results in two of the last three quarters.

We have previously noted the presence of signs of a systemic crisis in the industry. This is primarily due to a significant increase in the cost of wind energy projects and supply chain problems while maintaining fixed electricity prices. Obviously, this called into question the return on investment of the projects and reduced their investment attractiveness.

Because of the above, the upcoming China Wind Power 2023 could be critical as China is now the center of the world's wind power industry. So far, the data published by the organizers of this forum inspires optimism. Thus, it is expected that the number of exhibitors will be more than 750 (last time in 2021 there were 652), the total exhibition area will be 80,000 square meters (compared to 60,000 m2 two years earlier), and the number of visitors will reach 100,000 people, or by 45,000 more than last time.

Of course, all these are very indirect indicators, however, they indicate the highest interest of business, investors and researchers in the wind energy industry. Perhaps more than 200 speakers, providing access to a wealth of critical industry-leading knowledge and networking, will offer their optimal solutions to emerging problems and help overcome crisis phenomena.
