China Energy Production 2022 Q3

China is the global leader in the consumption of energy products and coal production, and is also ahead of the rest of the world in renewable power generation. However, consumption of natural gas and especially petroleum significantly exceeds domestic production. In this regard, statistical indicators of China's economy have an important bearing on how positions on the world energy market are formed. Below are the indicators of the main energy products production in China in the third quarter of 2022 according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China.

Gross Domestic Product in the third quarter of 2022 was 307,627.4 (100 million yuan), up 5.2% from the previous quarter and 6.1% from the same period last year. In addition, coal production amounted to 370 to 387 million tons monthly, coalbed gas methane production was 950 to 980 billion cubic meters, diesel and kerosene production were maintained at high levels in the third quarter. This data indicates that China's economy may have recovered from the pandemic restrictions. The table shows comparative data on the production of other energy products.

China's electricity generation in 2022 Q3 exceeded quarterly figures for the entire previous year, including 2022 Q2 and 2021 Q3. Generation figures were particularly high in July and August. More than 70% of China's electricity was generated by fossil fuel power plants. The second position in the share of generation sources is occupied by hydropower. When comparing the generation shares in 2021 Q3 with 2022 Q3, we can note a significant increase in the share of wind power, a marked increase in solar generation and a large decline in the influence of hydropower.
