Bioenergy 2019/ key applicants

Recent Inventions / Brief Overview

The present review includes statistical information on the major applicants, who registered patent applications in patent offices around the world in 2019 in the field bioenergy, including biogas, cellulosic ethanol, syngas, as well as other similar energy products. 1076 inventions from 30 patent offices, prepared by 523 applicants from 30 countries of the world were selected for the present review that were found in the result of a deliberate search and processed on the date of this publication.
The most productive applicant in 2019 in the field under consideration was Xyleco Inc. from the US, who registered 87 patent applications. The top four also included company from the Netherlands (DSM IP Assets B.V.), Denmark (Haldor Topsoe A/S) and Finland (Neste Oyj). In addition to the representatives of the US, Netherlands, Denmark and Finland, the list of top 10 applicants also included companies and organizations from France, Germany and Australia.

The majority of the applicants mentioned in documents prepared their patent solutions in the form of various methods. Arkema S.A., BASF, SE and DSM IP Assets B.V. proposed novel compositions to the greatest extent. Paques BV offered only new devices.
Xyleco Inc. and Neste Oyj applied for patents in 10 foreign patent offices, Arkema S.A., BASF, SE and Paques BV – in 8.

When considering the list of technology processes of bioenergy production each of the applicants had their own preferences in their inventions.
Neste Oyj, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) and Haldor Topsoe A/S, to a substantial degree, were focused on Finishing treatment.
DSM IP Assets B.V., Xyleco Inc. and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions AG prevailed in the field of Pre-treatment of feedstock. BASF, SE was more focused on Additional equipment.

The inventors of the applicants mentioned above aimed to resolve a broad spectrum of technological and ecological problems in their patent applications, which makes it difficult to identify their principal interests.

Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives emphasized the "Low efficiency of main processes" problem in nearly half of its applications; Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) turned to the "High OPEX / Utilization" most of all; Xyleco Inc. above all were concerned with the solution of problems related to High OPEX / Repair and replacement and "Low efficiency of main processes".

According to our calculations, the highest bibliography rating was gained by, among others, the following patent applications:
