China Wind Power 2019, Conference & Exhibition, Beijing

In recent years China has been the undisputed world leader in wind energy, both in terms of the annual commissioning of new capacities and in the amount of accumulated power. According to Irena, 20.2 GW wind turbines were commissioned in China in 2018, representing an increase of 12%. For comparison, the global volume of newly-implemented wind energy capacity in 2018 was less than 10%. Preliminary data for 2019 shows that this dynamic will at least continue in China, and its share of installed wind turbine capacity will exceed 30% of the global total.

Organizing the exchange of professional developments and the systematic popularization of renewable energy ideas among investors and businessmen is of no small importance for ensuring the large-scale development of wind energy in China. A good example of this is the China Wind Power 2019 Exhibition which took place at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing, 22-24 October 2019. The event was organized in partnership with the Chinese Wind Energy Association (CWEA), Chinese Renewable Energy Industry Association (CREIA) and CCID Conference & Exhibition, and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). The main exhibition also hosted the Beijing Renewable Energy Investment Summit and the China Wind Power Offshore Exhibition.

According to ExhibitionDataStatistics, as in the previous year, the exhibition abounded in the number of participants, their exhibits and visitors. The exhibition was attended by around 650 participants from 18 different countries, including delegates from leaders in wind energy such as China, Germany, Denmark, USA, Great Britain, and France. The area of the exhibition hall measured 60,000 m2, of which 33% of the available space was occupied by foreign representatives. About 80% of the participants were specialists from the following areas: Equipment manufacturers; Technology/Engineering; Owners Investors of wind power; Dealers/distributors/agents; and Domestic/International traders. The largest number of exhibits was dedicated to: Electrical equipment and control systems; Sensing equipment; Cooling/lubrication/lightning protection; Composite materials/chemical raw materials; Variable pitch/yaw systems; and Brake system/hydraulic systems.

Interestingly, when analysing patent applications over the past year it was found that technological elements such as Blades and components thereof and Control and safety systems were of the greatest interest to inventors, the share of each exceeding 30%. However, the distribution of the interests of the exhibitors did not correspond to the interests of the inventors. Several large companies that define the face of modern wind energy presented their exhibits, including Goldwind (China), Vestas (Denmark), Siemens Gamesa (Germany), Envision (China), Sinovel (China), General Electric (US). In total, the exhibition was attended by about 40,000 visitors over three days, of whom 8% were foreign citizens. At the conference accompanying the exhibition, several thematic forums were held, for example, the International Market Forum; Doing Business in Emerging Markets; Renewables LCOE Analysis; Large Size Rotor; Blade Technology Forum; IEA Wind Energy Technology Cooperation and Research Forum.

The next China Wind Power 2020 is scheduled to take place from October 14-16 as usual at the China International Exhibition Center.
